We could sing the praises of Headwaters all day long. However, we think it is more telling for you to read and hear firsthand what actual Headwaters residents have to say about their experiences at Headwaters.

Erwin Wieckowski – Charlotte, NC
“When I moved to Charlotte with my family 5 years ago, I felt like we landed in a great spot but something was missing – a place to connect with nature and get away from it all. My wife and I discussed the options and after looking at the lakes around Charlotte, ocean properties and the mountains, we quickly figured out that the mountains were the place for us with 4 real seasons, skiing, hiking, campfires and respite from the hot summer days of Charlotte.

The next trick was to find the right place. We started with the following criteria:

Beautiful mountain views

At least 3,500 feet elevation to get away from the heat and mosquitoes

Within 30 minutes of ski hills

Near a town with some restaurants and “personality”

On site amenities that would be suitable for the whole family

Less than 2-1/2 hours from Charlotte

Katie and Gary Dionne – Potomac Falls, VA.

“By way of background, my wife and I live on the outskirts of Washington D.C., where we have established our careers and raised our family. Having reached the point of retirement years just a short grasp away, we began searching for our ideal location within the constraints of our “must have” list of options. While initially a lake front cabin was the intended direction, after a few visits to the mountains of North Carolina the allure of serenity and natural beauty won out. We visited several mountain communities prior to our purchase at Headwaters in 2008 and while we were not immediately ready to break ground, we viewed this as an investment on our future dreams. Since 2008 we have continued to visit several other mountain communities in the North Carolina, South Carolina and the Tennessee area to ensure we have made the right choice before we invest in building our dream home. Our visits to other locations and our subsequent return stays at Headwaters have convinced us that Headwaters is unique in meeting all of our desires. The Headwaters theme phrase of “the illusion of seclusion,” is particularly spot on. Located only minutes away from downtown Banner Elk, once on the community grounds the peaceful environment and natural beauty in a park-like setting, the sounds of the breeze whistling through the trees can immediately take us away from the hustle and bustle of our routine in Northern Virginia to another place far calmer, less stressful and far more serene. The long-range views are phenomenal; the manicured yet nature rich grounds are soul warming; the walking paths are plentiful and peaceful; the trout-stocked ponds are fun for all ages and the community clubhouse, sitting on one of the most prominent views within the community has a game room, TV room, weight room, a gourmet kitchen and of course – spectacular views. A sunset from the clubhouse with family and friends and bottle of wine is about as good as we need in life. Surrounding all of these truly unique and appealing experiences of Headwaters would have to be the special relationship amongst the community owners. Simply put everyone we have met has been spectacularly nice and a pleasure to be with spending our free time. We have developed lasting friendships that make us eager for our return visits to Headwaters, to be encircled by the raw beauty of the mountains and to again be amongst our community friends.”

Susan Schleith and Jeff Lang – Huntington, New York

“We have dreamed about the perfect spot to build our retirement log home for years. We really didn’t know where this land was going to be but we knew that we wanted to enjoy cooler summers and still have snow in the winter. When I found the Blue Ridge Mountain area it seemed perfect. I started to look at communities when I stumbled across Headwaters. The website looked too good to be true and the people at Headwaters seemed too nice to be real. Upon visiting Headwaters we realized that this community was amazing and it was as good as it first appeared. Both the people of the community and the views were impressive. We decided that our search was over. We are now the proud owners of a Headwaters lot and look forward to building our log home around next May so that we can get a July log delivery. Then if all goes well, we’ll move there by the summer of 2013. I have to admit that every once in a while Jeff and I ask ourselves “what the heck are we thinking about us living in the mountains?”. This last trip made us feel much more comfortable. I think it’s just a matter of getting used to mountain roads and finding where all the stores are located. I’m ready – counting down towards Headwaters!”

Ralph Bradford – Wellington, FL

“Just wanted you to know that I believe that the quality and care exhibited by Headwaters is a direct reflection of your management and we really appreciate it.”

Allyn and Cathy Stanton – Chicago, IL

“We toured the country for years and had property under reservation elsewhere in Western North Carolina when we found Headwaters. John gave us a tour and we fell in love with it. We stumble upon a new discovery every day…the waterfalls, the lakes, the trails, the parks. Everything continues to exceed our expectations.”

Harry and Marcia Hersh – Brays Island, SC

“Putting the clubhouse on the most prominent view lot in the property was a demonstration that all the property owners will benefit from John’s vision. It’s not often you find a developer willing to give up prime acreage for a park or amenity area. We love it up here.”

David and Cherese Younts – Charlotte, NC

“We recently asked our grandchildren what they wanted to do while at The Headwaters. They replied, ‘go to the tree house park, hike up to the bear cave, feed the fish in the lakes and play ping-pong at the clubhouse’. So you can see that there is plenty for a kid to do. As for us adults, we enjoy long hikes, the beautiful mountain scenery, and seeing everything through our grandchildren’s eyes. It seems that around every corner, there is a park with lots of wildlife. We frequently see deer, wild turkey, hawks, a groundhog and more.” Cherese and I want to thank you for what you have created at The Headwaters. God made it beautiful, and you and your very pleasant staff have made it our favorite family retreat.”

Stan and Bonnie Feldman – Coral Springs, FL

“Many thanks for the hands on help with our recent move to Headwaters. Your outstanding staff made us feel welcome and were really fantastic. Your personal attention went above and beyond the call of duty helping us move in during an early morning rainstorm. The Headwaters experience far exceeded our expectations. Fantastic views from our deck, beautiful sunsets, tranquil lake setting, and the awesome unspoiled landscape made us feel like we were a part of nature. We certainly made the right choice joining the Headwaters community. Looking forward to spending many enjoyable years at Headwaters.”

John Barnette – Banner Elk, NC

“I have been building homes in the High Country for twenty years and been involved in many developments. The Headwaters is truly a one-of-a-kind community. It delivers everything that other developments only promise. It’s an easy sell with lakes, long range views, waterfalls, walking trails, clubhouse, gatehouse and adjoins national forest lands. It is truly a beautiful and remarkable place and when you add Christian and family values, it’s a home run.”
