The first stop for many visiting The Headwaters at Banner Elk, is our Information Center, located in downtown Banner Elk, North Carolina at 312 Shawneehaw Avenue, right beside the Banner Elk Cafe.

Directions to the Downtown Information Center

From Asheville, NC:

Take I-40 East from Asheville to Exit 81 (Sugar Hill Road). At bottom of ramp, turn left and go approximately 4 miles to the US 221/226 interchange. Take US 221 North to Linville. Turn right at light in Linville continuing on US 221. At next light, turn left continuing on US 221 and go four miles to light at NC 184. Turn left at light toward Banner Elk. Information Office is next to the Banner Elk Cafe.

From Charlotte, NC:

Take I-85 South to US 321 North. Follow US 321 into Boone and turn left onto NC 105 toward Grandfather Mountain. Turn right onto NC 184 to Banner Elk. Information Center located opposite Banner Elk Elementary School.

From Greensboro, NC:

Take I-40 West to US 421 North to Boone. Turn left onto NC 105 toward Grandfather Mountain. Turn right onto NC 184 to Banner Elk. Information Center located opposite Banner Elk Elementary School.

From Greenville-Spartanburg, SC:

Take I-85 North to US 321 North in Gastonia. Follow US 321 to Boone. Turn left onto NC 105 toward Grandfather Mountain. Turn right onto NC 184 to Banner Elk. Information Center located opposite Banner Elk Elementary School.

Directions to the Welcome Center

From the Downtown Information Center in Banner Elk, go to the light at the intersection of NC 184 & NC 194 in Banner Elk. Turn left on NC 194 South. Drive 4.6 miles and turn right on Beech Mountain Road (you will see a large sign on the building pointing the way). Go 2.5 miles on Beech Mountain Road and turn left into the community. Stay to the right to bypass the gatehouse and enter the parking lot.
